NSN Pennsylvania House Historic Renovation
Project Overview
Originally constructed for the 1907 Jamestown Exposition, Pennsylvania House is one of Naval Station Norfolk’s most recognizable historic buildings. Modeled after Philadelphia’s Independence Hall, the building features a prominent central clock tower and has served a variety of uses throughout its more than century-long history.
The renovation began with a structural investigation of the existing building and clock tower to identify repairs necessary for its continued use and preservation. Structural design included repairs to the wood framing throughout the multi-level clock tower, repairs to the historic front portico canopy, and a new canopy, accessible ramp, and grating platform at the loading area, along with miscellaneous repairs throughout the building.
