Times Dispatch Storage Facilities

Hanover County, VA

Times Dispatch Self Storage is a new, ground-up storage complex encompassing more than 130,000 square feet across seven buildings and providing more than 1,000 storage units. The development includes a mix of one- and two-story storage buildings, an office building, and a large covered loading area designed to provide convenient access between the primary storage buildings.

The facility was designed to accommodate a variety of storage needs, including climate-controlled and drive-up units, with elevator access serving the multi-story portions of the complex. The project also incorporated dedicated loading areas, outdoor parking, and supporting site amenities within the approximately 6.5-acre development.

Structural System

The buildings primarily utilize cold-formed metal framing supporting elevated concrete slabs on metal deck at the floors and conventional metal deck at the roof. Significant grade changes at one building created a partial basement condition, requiring reinforced concrete retaining walls supporting two levels of storage above. Structural steel framing was selectively incorporated throughout the complex to accommodate key architectural features, including extended parapets, open storefronts, and other large openings. The buildings are supported on conventional shallow concrete foundations.
